Whispering Caves

Harpist and composer Inge Frimout-Hei has spent a lot of time visiting imposing caves with her family. Enchanted by this mystical, subterranian world, Frimout-Hei made various musical sketches and compositions of caves such as Lacave in southern France, with its sprawling underground lakes. Whispering Caves consists of 13 compositions, and was performed on the 13th of April 2014, with over 40 harpists taking part. It was a wonderful event and I was honored to be allowed to take part in it.

A successful Dutch Harp Festival

From the 26th of February to the 2nd of March, Utrecht was filled with harps, as the city hosted the Dutch Harp Festival. Organised by Remy van Kesteren, the Dutch Harp Festival is a festival all about harps.

On a Saturday, the AMT-orchestra, led by Manuel Visser and narrated by Edwin Rutten, performed a piece, and I took part in the event as a harpist. We performed; “Het Muiderslot” by Nico Brandon and the famous “Carnaval des Animaux” by Camille Saint-Saëns. The target audience was children, but the adult members of the audience enjoyed it nonetheless. In the afternoon, I took part in a master class by Gwyneth Wentink (a famous Dutch harpist).

On the following Sunday I performed together with Sterre Koopman in the gallery owned by Rob Rademakers in Utrecht's city center. Beside the festival area was a cultural event, where people could enjoy a mini-concert from 13.00 to 17.00. We had a large audience over the course of the day and I got many positive responses. The greatest moment of the Festival for me was when Paul Patterson (a English composer who wrote the piece; “Spiders” that I performed on the Rosa Spier concours) came to listen to me and talked to me about his piece.

Winner Rosa Spier Concours!

On the 27th and 28th of December, the Rosa Spier Concours took place in Dordrecht. I took part in the Concours and entered in the category pedalharpists age 15 to 17 years. I performed the obligatory piece; “The centipede with the wooden leg” of Arne Werkman and performed the four parts of “Spiders” by Paul Patterson for the free part. I was overjoyed when it turned out that I had won both the first prize of the Concours and an additional award for best performance of  the obligatory piece.
